SHORT BIOGRAPHY

  • Lakhdar Brahimi was born on the 1st of January 1934 and he’s currently 84
  • He is an Algerian United Nations diplomat who served as the United Nations and Arab League special envoy to Syria until 14th May 2014
  • He was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria from 1991-1993
  • So basically he fought for peace and he was involved in the government

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • He fought for Algeria’s independence
  • He released the “Brahimi Report” which assessed the areas of opportunity as well as made recommendations for modifying several policies and strategies, as well as the areas of need in terms of organization and operation
  • He's got 4 honorary degrees and received the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Award for Freedom of Speech and Expression

THE ELDERS

  • Lakhdar Brahimi has always been fighting for peace in the world so it only made sense that he joined The Elders
  • He is from Algeria where there was lots of wars and no peace
  • He strongly believes in world peace and that was his main motive for becoming an Elder
  • Brahimi also wanted to make a difference in the world and use his power for the good of others
