MOUNTAINS

  • an area of land that rises very high above the land
  • Matterhorn, Switzerland
  • Matterhorn is the tenth highest mountain in Switzerland.

WATERFALL

  • a cascade of water falling from a height
  • Niagra Falls
  • This waterfall is made of three waterfalls

VALLEY

  • a low area of land between hills or mountains
  • Yosemite Valley
  • Valleys usually have rich soil

MESA

  • an isolated flat-topped hill with steep sides
  • Neuquen Providence
  • Mesa means table in Spanish

DELTA

  • watery land formed at the mouth of a river
  • In Botswana
  • It's often shaped like a triangle.

ALLUVIAL FAN

  • a fan-shaped mass of alluvium
  • Death Valley

LEVEE

  • embankment built to prevent the overflow
  • New Orleans, LA, US
  • Bordering Wadden Sea, Netherlands
  • May reduce flood risk, but doesn't eliminate it

CANYON

  • deep gorge, typically with a river flowing through it
  • Northern Arizona, USA
  • Richtersveld National Park, Namibia

MEANDER

  • a winding curve or bend of a river
  • In Colonel Josefa Area, Argentina
  • In Cuba

RIVER

  • a large natural flow of water
  • In Shandong, China
  • On the border of Romania and Ukraine

PLATEAU

  • an area of relatively level high ground
  • Indo-Australian and Eurasian tectonic plates
  • It takes a long time for a plateau to form.

REFLECTION

  • I learned many things during this project.
  • I learned that there are many different forms of land
  • I also learned that there are landforms all around the Earth
  • When I go somewhere, I can identify the different landforms.
