BY YSABELLA PALOMINO 5/6PalominoYsabella_SASH
2.
MOUNTAINS
Mountains are landforms that are made when the Earth's tectonic plates collide.
The tallest mountain is Mt. Everest, that is located in the Himalayas and is 29,092 ft.
As time goes on mountains erode, which means to wear away.
Erosion is normally caused by wind, water or glaciers.
We need to know about mountains because they affect the way we travel and what crops we grow.
3.
ALLUVIAL FAN
An alluvial fan is a cone-shaped build up of sediment, built up by streams.
Farmers use these landforms for Irrigation.
This Alluvial fan is located in Xianjiang Province, China.
4.
Waterfalls
A waterfall is a place where water flows over a vertical drop.
Niagara Falls is a waterfall that is located in the border of Onterio and New York.
500000 gallons of water falls over Niagara Falls every second.
Niagara is considered a popular tourist attraction and many flock to see it.
We need to know about waterfalls because they are a natural source of fresh water.
5.
Delta
A delta is a winding river that flows into an ocean, sea estuary, or lake.
Deltas are formed of rocks, clay and slit that are carried downstream by a river.
The largest delta in the world is the Sunderbans Delta in Bengal.
This delta is located in Botswana and is called the Okavango Delta.
6.
CANYON
A canyon is a valley with steep sides formed by erosion.
This canyon is called the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
The Grand Canyon is considered to be one of the 7 Wonders of the world.
7.
MESA
Mesas are formed by weathering and erosion of horizontally layered rocks.
The largest Mesa is the Great Mesa which stands proudly at 11,000 ft.
We need to know about mesas because they use mesas to pinpoint certain areas.
8.
MEANDER
A meander is a sinuous bend Ina watercourse or river.
We need to know about these because people need to learn about how water travels.
This small meander is located in Colonel Josefa Area, Argentina.
9.
RIVER
A river is a large natural stream that flows to an ocean, lake or other river.
This river, the Danube river is located on the border of Romania and Uraine.
Most rivers are a great source of fresh water.
10.
LEVEE
A levee is a man-made build up to prevent the overflow of water of a river
This levee is built up along the Wadden Sea.
Levees are made out of compacted dirt, sandbags, rocks and other materials.
11.
Plateau
An area of relatively high ground.
This Plateau is in Antarctica.
12.
VALLEY
A low area between hills or mountains.
The valley in this picture is called the Interlaken Valley in Swhitzerland.
People often make homes in valleys, just like in the valley featured in this picture.

WHAT I LEARNED........
By doing this project I learned how different landforms affected people.
I learned that mountains make it hard for people to travel and how plateaus are formed.
I also learned that people not only use landforms for farming and water, but for money also.
I can use what I learned in this project so I can be better prepared if I see one of these landforms.
I can also use this to help me understand different cultures and how he landforms affect them.
