VALLEY

  • A low place between hills
  • Usually has a river flowing through it
  • The Indus Valley is a famous valley between China and India.
  • The river that runs through it holds a rare species of dolphin that is almost extinct.

  • A large flat area of land with a few trees
  • The great plains are located in North America

REEF

  • A Piece of jagged rock or coral just above or below the surface of the water.
  • The Great Barrier Reef is a mosaic of 2,900 individual reefs off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia.

PLATEAU

  • An area of relatively level high ground.
  • Kukenan Tepui in Venezuela is a very beautiful plateau located in a national park.

ISLAND

  • A piece of land surrounded by water on all sides.
  • Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world.

RIVER

  • a large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea, a lake, or another river.
  • The Nile is a north-flowing river in Africa, generally regarded as the longest river in the world.

LAKE

  • a large body of water surrounded by land.
  • Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America.

MOUNTAIN

  • A large natural elevation of the earth's surface rising abruptly from the surrounding level; a large steep hill.
  • Mt. Everest is the worlds tallest mountain. It is 8,848 meteres above sea level.

  • a narrow passage of water connecting two seas or two large areas of water.
  • The Strait of Gibraltar is a narrow strait that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea

  • A piece of land surrounded by water on three sides.
  • The Arabian Peninsula is a peninsula of Western Asia situated north-east of Africa.

ISTHMUS

  • a narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger areas of land.
  • Isthmus of Mansheya connects the island of Pharos to the mainland and Alexandria

ARCHIPELAGO

  • a group of islands.
  • The Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the Equator in the Pacific Ocean

CANYON

  • A deep gorge, typically one with a river flowing through it.
  • The Grand Canyon receives five million visitors each year

DELTA

  • forms at the mouth of a river, where the river flows into an ocean, sea, estuary, lake, or reservoir.
  • Deltas form from deposition of sediment carried by a river as the flow leaves its mouth
  • The Mississippi delta is known as the most famous bird's foot delta.

  • A deep inlet of the sea almost surrounded by land, with a narrow mouth.
  • The Lingayen Gulf is large gulf on Northwestern Luzon in the Philippines, stretching 56 km (35 mi).
