GEOGRAPHY

  • -Many Beaches and resorts due to proximity of the Mediterranean Oceans - Pyrenees mountains border the south west - Cevenees in the west (part of the Massif Central) - 1/3 covered by forest - 65% of open spaces - Gorges du Tarn (a deep and dramatic rock gorge) - 5 regions: Lozere, Gard, Herault, Aude, and Pyrenees Orientale (have forests and agriculture and mountains and stuff)

  • - Peyrepertuse - Pont du Gard - Château de Quéribus - Abbey of Saint-Martin-du-Canigou - Cité de Carcassonne - Château de Termes - Bambouseraie de Prafrance - Puilaurens Castle - Fontfroide Abbey

  • Agriculture- olives and grapes
  • Lots of Wineries
  • Animal husbandry in the Causses region
  • Industry is underdeveloped
  • Not many minerals, some plutonium
  • Large plastic manufacturing industry
  • Tourism is growing

  • Almost every little village has at least one festival a year - Bastille Day: a huge July 14th festival - Carcassonnes music festival: June to August, huge festival covering a lot of genres - Les Joutes Nautiques de Sète- canal jousting, in costume - Montpellier Dance Festival- dance from all over the world - Folk music festival in Langogne
