LATERAL LIGAMENT RECONSTRUCTION ANKLE

What is it?
Repair of damaged ligaments on the lateral side of the ankle by using a thick band of tissue, or by using a tendon graft.

PURPOSE

• Corrects chronic ankle instibility
• Improves and restores function
• Reduces pain

TESTS TO DETERMINE SURGERY

• Anterior drawer test
• MRI
• X-Ray

POST OP

• Placed in cast for two weeks
• At two weeks placed in boot for four weeks
• Four weeks given brace and start PT

PHYSICAL THERAPY

• Takes up to 8 weeks or more
• Helps with propreception
• Helps get back to norml giat

RECOVERY

• Six to twelve months
• Able to begin normal activities after three months post op
