  • -Born October 25th 1927 in New York
  • Died January 18th 1987
  • -Studied at the University of Chicago and Harvard
  • -Was a passionate educator and psychologist
  • -Inspired by Piaget (Dooery, 2016)

Theory of Moral Development

  • -Believed "that people progressed in their moral reasoning in a series of stages"
  • -Six stages and 3 levels of moral development (Barger, 2000)

  • -his work was cognitive in a time where psychology was mostly behaviorist
  • -Criticised by some who did not think that his theory of moral development applied evenly to boys and girls (doorey, 2016)
  • -Almost could not define stage 6 because he believed so few ever reached it (barger, 2000)
