SURFACE FEATURES

  • The surface feature of the sun includes sun spots, solar flares, and prominences
  • Sun spots are storms over areas of the sun that cool down the surface in the area that they affect and so they appear darker some last days others weeks
  • Solar flares are sudden flashes of brightness near the surface of the sun that release electrical energy
  • Prominences are large bright gaseous feature extending from the sun I a loop shape

CORONA

  • The solar corona is an aura of plasma that surrounds the sun and other celestial bodies
  • The only that we can see the corona from earth is during a solar eclipse

CHROMOSPHERE

  • The chromosphere is the second lowest layer in the solar atmosphere it surrounds the sun and extends 2,000 kilometers
  • Like the corona it is only visible during a total eclipse where it is the relish orange hue

PHOTOSPHERE

  • The photosphere is the sun's outer shell that emits most of the sun's light visible from earth

CONVECTION ZONE

  • The sun's convection zone is much like the earth's mantle where the heat energy also comes from convection
  • However in the sun plasma is being convicted not magma

CORE AND RADIATION ZONE

  • The solar core is the very center of the sun and also the hottest, it is also the hottest place in the solar system
  • The radiation zone is the part of the sun or any star where heat is transported by radiation rather than convection or conduction

SUN FACTS

  • The sun is a nearly perfect sphere
  • The sun is 330,000 times bugger than earth
  • The sun is made up of mostly hydrogen and helium
