PRESENTATION OUTLINE

LD50 of NaCl

Hypothesis:
High salinity can be toxic to certain species, the higher the NaCl concentration of a solution the less seeds germinated
-The salt denatures the seeds making it less able for the seeds to germinate and survive

Untitled Slide

-Separated the lentils into nine groups of 10
-Cut nine germination envelopes out from paper towels and placed an individual group in each envelope

Untitled Slide

-Measured the different grams of salt and mixed each specific mass into a solution with 100 mL of water

Untitled Slide

-Each germination envelope was soaked in a different solution and after was placed in a plastic bag with the correct g NaCl/ 100 mL H20 labeled

Untitled Slide

-After 5 days, the germination envelopes were taken out of the plastic bags
-Each envelope was analyzed to see if any of the lentil seeds germinated, how many, or none

Untitled Slide

-For the solutions with 0.0 g of NaCl and the 1.5 g of NaCl, all seeds were germinated such as here

Untitled Slide

No seeds were germinated. This is what occurred to all our seeds after the 1.5 g NaCl/100.0 mL of H20.

Untitled Slide

-This is what occurred to all seeds after the 1.5 g NaCl/100.0 mL of H20
-No seeds were germinated

Untitled Slide

-Results suggest that the hypothesis on toxicity is correct:
the higher the NaCl concentration per solution, the less lentils were germinated; mostly none
