Important leaders of the Mongolian Empire

CHINGGIS KHAN

  • Known as the "universal ruler" Chinggis unified Mongolian tribes.
  • He established the capital city of Karakorum.
  • He chose high officials based on loyalty.
  • Led the conquest of Northern China, however Song Dynasty held South
  • Tried to open trade and relations with the Saljuq Turkish people.

Mongol Empire after Chinggis

  • After Chinggis died in 1227.
  • Khubilai Khan= "Great Khan"- promoted Buddhism
  • The Great Khan conquested Southern China
  • The Great Khan was the grandson of Chinggis Khan
  • The heirs divided the Empire into four regions.

Hülegu Khan

  • Khubilai Khan's brother
  • Captured Bhagdad in 1258

COLLABORATION

  • The four Mongol Empires maintained relations
  • All four had diplomatic communications
  • They even formed partnerships with Korea
  • As well as, Vietnam, Europe, and India.
