We recommend choosing one task or process you would really prefer not to do and applying the concepts that follow. It can be cleaning out the garage, rearranging closets, or even doing the dishes - pick one thing you dread and try it.

SORT

  • Eliminate unnecessary things
  • Clean out storage areas thoroughly
  • Keep only what is needed - Let It Go!

SET IN ORDER

  • Layout repetitively used tools/items
  • Create fixed storage places
  • Use peg board or Kaizen foam
  • Mark the shadow of the tool/item for easy identification

Shine

  • Keep the area clean
  • Place items/tools in a specific order
  • Share the process with those involved

STANDARDIZE

  • Establish crystal clear standards for all users
  • Color code and categorize
  • Be innovative with other visual management aides
  • Be able to easily highlight out of sync items

  • Maintain the area
