Legos were created by Ole Kirk Christiansen
Was created in Denmark in the early 1900's
Lego is currently owned by Kjeld Kirk Christiansen
Ole traveled from store to store trying to sell his wooden toys to feed his family
One of his most popular toys was a duck on wheels

Started out as a carpentry business
Ole traveled around a lot trying to sell his wooden toys
His son Godtfred helped him build toys
The shop burned down in 1924 but was rebuilt
The shop burned down again in 1942, and was rebuilt again

CREATION OF THE BRICK
In 1947 when the company was doing well, Ole purchased a plastic molding machine. This eventually lead to the creation of Lego bricks.

"LEGO"
The term LEGO comes from the Danish words "LEg GOdt" meaning "play well."

DEATH
Ole died on March 11, 1958
Died of a heart attack at age 66
His son Godtfred took over the company
Godtfred had a son named Kjeld
The lego business will continue to be run by Ole's family

LEGOLAND
Legoland, Denmark was opened in 1968
There has since been parks opened in CA, FL, Germany, UK, and Malaysia
Each park gets around 1.6 million visitors annually
Proffesional builders make large sculptures out of Legos to decorate the park
Purple Lego bricks are very rare
