Hildegarde of Bingen

God works where God wills ....

but I am continuously filled with fear and trembling

For I do not recognize in myself security

through any kind of personal ability

And yet I raise my hands aloft to God

that I might be held by God, just alike a feather

which has no weight from its own strength

and lets itself be carried by the wind

Relax.  Close Your Eyes.  Breathe deeply and slowly

Imagine you are a feather being lightly carried by a gentle breeze

Notice how the feather dances playfully with each breeze

How do you feel as the feather, flowing?

How do you feel when you feel God carrying you gently along

times when your spirit was buoyed up by the awareness of God's care for you

God once hovered over the chaos of the deep

And spoke life into it

This Lenten season, watch for God speaking life.

Pause and rest here for a moment

Breathe, be with God, and prepare for your journey

Lent often feels desert-like - mesas painted and tufts of dying grass

beautiful and barren - about to become a lush valley.

when you look at these rocks, you see the power of wind.

These have been shaped by dust - microscopic bits the wind picks up.

Like rocks we are shaped by abrasives in our lives,

but Lent is a time to take the dust out of our pockets,

examine it carefully, and decide if

we still want or need to be shaped

The journey begins when you breathe

Breathe out contrition,

breathe in mercy.

Breathe out confusion,

breathe in wisdom.

breathe out frustration at a packed schedule,

breathe in God's ability to lead me to still waters.

As you sit and breathe, think back on anything you would like to leave

by the side of the road before your journey through the Lenten season.

If you think of something, jot it on a slip of paper

and take it with you to Mass                                              .
