  • Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was his full name
  • He was a man of many occupations such as:
  • Painter, sculptor, architect, cartographer, botanist, writer...
  • Born: April 15, 1452, Vinci, Italy - Died: May 2, 1519, Amboise, France

OTHER FACTS

  • "Da Vinci" simply means "of Vinci",
  • His drawings included musical instruments, war machines, calculators, boats and many others.
  • Many of these plans were not put into action because of the level of technology at the time.

THE UNIVERSAL MAN

  • Michelangelo and Davinci called them selves the universal man
  • Leo believed painting was a much higher than sculpture
  • Which in turn caused an argument between the two

PATRONS

  • He was always looking for a sponsor/patrons
  • all the popes were killing each other
  • And he went from patron to patron
  • Until all the popes were dead then the french king sponsored him

MONA LISA

  • Mona Lisa, Last Supper and Vitruvian man are said to be among the best in the Renaissance
  • Mona Lisa theory #1: Her smile means she was secretly pregnant,
  • #2: She was amused by the musicians and clowns who entertained her,
  • Another theory says the Mona Lisa is a portrait of Leonardo himself, slyly disguised.
