LEONARDO DA VINCI

BACKGROUND

• Life span: April 15, 1452-May 2, 1592
• Received elementary level education from his father (reading and arithmetic) .
• 1467-1477 became a painters apprentice until 1477 when he became a painter
• Between 1482 and 1499 Leonardo was in the service of the Duke of Milan. He completed six paintings during his time in the Duke's service he also advised on architecture. He was also considered as a hydraulic and mechanical engineer.

BACKGROUND

• Lucia (his mother) was born in 1393.
• She had two brothers and one sister, Piero and Francesco and their daughter Violante
• Leonardo was the original son of Piero.
