PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Who Was He?
Leonardo da vinchi was born in April the 15th 1452 in anchiano near Vinci and he died on May 2nd 1519 in cleux France. He was born his parents were not married but shortly after he was born his dad went and married a woman from a wealthy family. When he was 17 he was interested in science.
Leonardo artistic taste started when he was young with his dad. When he was about 15, his father, who enjoyed a high reputation in the Florence community, apprenticed him to artist Andrea del Verrocchio.
THE HORSE IN BRONZE
In 1482, the Duke of Milan asked da Vinci to build the world’s biggest horse sculpture in honour of his father and to stand guard over the Duke’s castle. Once completed, the horse was to stand 24 feet high. Da Vinci spent a number of years making sketches to get the details just right. Eventually he sculpted a full-size clay model which was to be later covered in bronze.
IL CAVALLO
Da Vinci started drawing a model of this horse when he was building the Bronze horse but This horse was meant for Giacomo Trivulzio. Not much is known about This model because it was only ever in Da Vinci's sketches. According to da Vinci’s drawings and sketches, two problems had yet to be figured out regarding “Il Cavallo”. First, he needed to fill the space where the belly of the horse was to be, and second, he needed to settle on the position of the rider. Although his drawings always showed the rider on the horse’s back, the rider was meant to have been cast separately from the horse. Unfortunately this Leonardo da Vinci sculpture never got built.
THE PARACHUTE
Da Vinci made a sketch of the invention with this accompanying description: "If a man have a tent made of linen of which the openings have all been stopped up, and it be about 23 feet across and twelve in depth, he will be able to throw himself down from any great height without suffering any injury."
Glider
Although modern materials like aluminium and synthetic cloths were not available to him at the time, historians have recently attempted to build it using materials he would have had available and found that it could actually fly with a couple of small modifications. The main modification to his glider design being the addition of a rudder to stabilise the left and right movement of the glider.
The title of the painting which is known in English as Mona Lisa comes from a description by Renaissance art historian Giorgio Vasari who wrote the Leonardo undertook to paint for Francesco del Giocondo what was the portrait of Mona Lisa his wife. Now the Mona Lisa is at a French art museum called the Louvre Museum.
The main reason why it is so special is because it was the last thing Leonard da vinchi made before he died.
The Vitruvian Man what is called in Italian is called the Le proporzioni del corpo umano secondo Vitruvio or simply L'Uomo Vitruviano. It was a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci what was made around 1490. The drawing was drawn in pen and ink on paper. In the picture you can see a man in two superimposed positions with his arms and legs apart and in a circle and square. The drawing and text are sometimes called the Canon of Proportions or a less often Proportions of a man. It is kept in the Gabinetto dei disegni e stampe of the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice of Italy. Like most works on paper it is displayed to the public only occasionally.
ANATOMY
An area of science de Vinci studied was the anatomy. He made crude sketches of all parts of body and some beautiful ones. He made observations on such parts as the eye socket, the optic nerve entering the brain, and complete human tendons, muscles, and the skeletal system. After a few years he went back to researching the human body. He eventually made a brake through with his work by making a theory about the four powers. One of his favourite muscles were the biceps
