LEPROSY

WHAT IS LEPROSY

  • Leprosy is an infectious disease that causes severe, disfiguring skin sores and nerve damage in limbs

WHAT CAUSES LEPROSY

  • Leprosy is caused by a slow-growing type of bacteria called Mycobacterium leprae

SYMPTOMS

  • Loss of feeling in the arms and legs Muscle weakness

FORMS OF LEPROSY

  • Tuberculoid
  • Lepromatous
  • Borderline

BORDERLINE

  • People with this type of leprosy have symptoms of both the tuberculoid and lepromatous forms.

TUBERCULOID

  • a less severe form of leprosy. This type has only a few patches pale skin

LEPROMATOUS

  • more severe form of the disease. It has widespread skin bumps and rashes, numbness, and muscle weakness.

ORIGIN

  • Leprosy started in 1550 B.C
  • The place of origin was in egypt

TREATMENTS FOR LEPROSY

  • Rifampicin and clofazimine are now combined with dapsone to treat leprosy
