LESIONS OF THE INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM

MACULE

  • Small circumscribed changes in the color of skin that are neither raised nor depressed.

PAPULE

  • a small, raised, solid pimple or swelling, often forming part of a rash on the skin
  • Typically inflammed and have no pus

NODULE

  • small swelling or aggregation of cells in the body, especially an abnormal one.

TUMOR

  • Swelling of a part of the body, generally without inflammation, caused by an abnormal growth of a tissue
  • Can be benign or malignant

WHEAL

  • a red, swollen mark left on flesh by a blow or pressure
  • an area of the skin that is temporarily raised, typically reddened, and usually accompanied by itching

VESICLE

  • a fluid- or air-filled cavity or sac, in particular.

PUSTULE

  • A small blister or pimple on the skin containing pus

BULLA

  • Bullae are fluid-filled sacs or lesions that appear when fluid is trapped under a thin layer of your skin.

EXCORIATIONS

  • A raw irritated lesion of the skin
  • Caused by the act of brading or wearing off the skin

FISSURE

  • A cleft or groove in the skin that leaves a "cracked" appearance

ULCER

  • A sore on the skin that is followed by disintegration of tissues
