PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Less is More

Creating Educational Content
In creating education content that helps learners understand the material, less is more.

Practical

Using too many tools to create content is damaging to the learner
There are practical reasons for creating educational content that does not tax a learner's cognitive processes. While anyone who creates a presentation often feels that the presentation needs to be flashy to be effective, it is certainly not the case. Creating content that considers practicality for the learner is more effective.

Helpful

Learners need educational content that helps them learn.
Learners are helped by content that does not overwhelm the visual and auditory channels. Learners are better able to retain information presented in one particular format, say the auditory inclusion of presented material that is not made redundant by having the material presented word for word in text.

Easy

Learners need content that makes learning accessible
It is easier to create content that learners will be able to digest more efficiently. Creating content that includes too many elements that produce cognitive overload does not help learners achieve the objectives of a course.

Bare

Effective content creation shows only what is necessary
Effective design centers on the idea that show only what is necessary for the learner to understand in that instance is of the most importance.

Efficient

Learners are able to fit more into their brains through efficient design
The efficiency created with the "less is more" approach to educational design is refreshing for the learner. An efficient design allows learners to fit more of the lesson into their long term memories.

Minimalist

The content seeks to take learners on the path to mastery
A minimalist design is helpful at any stage of learning, but it is most useful when students are attempting to master a lesson. This design approach allows learners to focus on one tool or concept that will help them build their knowledge in a helpful and meaningful way.

The End

No need to add more content
There is no need to add extraneous content once a lesson is complete. To do so takes up learning resources.
