LEVELED LITERACY INTERVENTION

LLI - TIER INSTRUCTION 1ST GRADE

WHAT IS LLI?

  • Daily supplement to small group reading instruction
  • Based on Fountas and Pinnell gradient of text difficulty
  • Ongoing progress monitoring & record keeping
  • Fast paced 30 minute lessons ( fluency,comprehension,phonics,writing)
  • Brings students up to grade level in 12 to 20 weeks

WHO?

  • Reading tier students
  • Struggling readers
  • Struggling writers
  • Special Ed students
  • ELL

WHERE DO I START?

  • Assess students to get instructional/independent reading level
  • Look at letter ID, Early Literacy Behaviors, High Frequency Words
  • Phonological Awareness
  • Not reading - start at level A
  • Start the group @ a text level that allows every child to begin with success

GREEN SYSTEM

  • 110 lessons
  • 10 days of getting started - shared reading and interactive writing
  • Independent reading starts @ level A
  • 10 days of lessons for every level, A through J

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF LLI

  • Getting started lessons- first 10 lessons
  • Even numbered lessons - new independent leveled book (generally 1 to 2 levels below)
  • Progress monitor 1 student every even numbered lesson
  • Odd numbered lessons- introduction of new instructional level book
  • Readers have the advantage of processing new text every day

5 INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITES

  • 5 minutes - rereading (fluency)
  • 5 minutes phonics
  • 15 minutes reading a new book with several levels of support
  • 10 minutes writing about reading
  • 5 minutes letter/word work
