Lewis and Clark went on the expedition because Thomas Jefferson, along with the rest of the Americans wanted to know if the Louisiana purchase was a good purchase.

DAY ONE

  • It rained most of the day and had North East wind.
  • They were expected to make detailed observations on the plants, animals, and the geography.
  • They also were expected to be friendly with the Native Americans

  • Native Americans didn't like the white people
  • Lewis and Clark had a ritual for meeting a Native American tribe.
  • They danced and gave presents to the Native Americans.

THE FIRST ENCOUNTER OF SACAGAWEA

  • They see the leader of the shoshone tribe married to two women, one of which was Sacagawea.

WHAT WAS SACAGAWEA USEFUL FOR

  • She was the interpreter in the group.
  • She was pregnant.
  • She had to go after luggage.

  • Prairie dogs

THE PLANTS LEWIS AND CLARK DISCOVERED

  • Buffalo berry
  • Bear berry
  • Fir
  • Silky wormwood
  • Lance leaf sage

DIFFICULTIES

  • They had to stay with native american tribes during the frigid winters.
  • Some of the Native American tribes didn't like Lewis and Clark.

GOALS THEY DID NOT ACCOMPLISH

  • They were friendly to most of the Native Americans.
  • They couldn't have been friendly to all of them.
