PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Lewis and Clark we're going on a expedition to find out where the Mississippi River started.

They also were going on the expedition to find new things and meet new Native Americans.

Their first day of their travel was exciting for all the curiosities and things they will come across on their journey.
Their mission was to explore the unknown territory, establish trade with the Natives and affirm the sovereignty of the United States in the region.

There first interactions was a kind of a ritual where Lewis and Clark told the chief leader that Jefferson was there "great father." They were given peace medals and other trade goods.

Their first encounter with Sacajawea was wonderful. She was a huge part of their success because she was a guide for Lewis and Clark across their expedition.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition left from St. Louis, Missouri in late1804, proceeded up the Missouri River until it ended in the Rocky Mountains, crossed the Rockies and down the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean. There they established Fort Clatsop near the present site of Astoria, Oregon. The trek was extremely arduous, but only one life was lost, owing to a ruptured appendix, over 28 months and 8000 miles on the trail.
They mainly came across a lot of different types of sage brush. Also they came across different animals such as groundhogs and bears.

They had to go through bad weather, dangerous animals, also one bad incident that happened with Blackfeet Indians. They fought and only 2 Blackfeet indians were killed.

They met their objective of reaching the Pacific, mapping and establishing their presence for a legal claim to the land. They established diplomatic relations and trade with at least two dozen indigenous nations. They did not find a continuous waterway to the Pacific Ocean.
