FIRST DAY
They faced dangerous waters and harsh weather and endured hunger, illness, injury, and fatigue. Along the way, Lewis kept a detailed journal and collected samples of plants and animals he encountered. Their main objective was to follow the Missouri River west and eventually find out if they could connect this river with an all-water route to the Pacific Ocean.

INTERACTIONS
Lewis and Clark had very good interactions with the natives. They would also give the Indians a peace medal with Jefferson on one side and two hands clasping on the other, as well as some form of presents (often trade goods). But the group encountered some Blackfeet Indians and fought them. Although no members of the expedition were killed in the fighting, they killed two Blackfeet.

SACAGAWEA
Sacagawea turned out to be incredibly valuable to the Corps as it traveled westward, through the territories of many new tribes. Some of these Indians, prepared to defend their lands, had never seen white men before.
