- Lewis kept a detailed journal and collected flowers
- Reached the Pacific ocean in November 1805
- Built Fort Clatsop and spent the Winter in present day Oregon
- On the way back in 1806 L and C split up

- Lewis was shot in the thigh by one of his own men
- They joined back up at the Missouri river and went to St Louis
- Total expedition was roughly 8000 miles by foot, boat, horseback
- Lewis received payment for his courageous efforts (land/governor)
