In 1924 Henrey Gerber founded the Society for human rights, the first gay rights organization. Founded in Chicago, it was the first organization in the U.S.
Gerber had come up with his idea for the group while serving in the U.S army.
Henrey had a news letter he created for gay interest called, “Friendship and Freedom”. Police raids caused them to disband in 1925.
10 years later Henrey Gerber home was turned into a landmark.
In 1950 Harry Hay founded the Mattachine Foundation. Which then was America’s first gay rights group. He was a large Gay Rights activist especially during the Stonewall riots.
