STATUE OF LIBERTY

BY MADELYN AND MADISON

Back in the day, when there was no power, a little girl was born. Well, I wouldn't call her little. In fact, she was 15 times the size of regular babies. The storks dropped her off to a couple who we're expecting a child. They named her Liberty.

When Liberty grew old she took chariots and used them as roller skates. She also loved to take buildings from the ground and use them as back scratchers.

One day, Liberty was on a hike. She heard a loud roar. All of a sudden, a giant mountain lion popped out from behind a boulder. The animal started clawing at Liberty, but she smashed it with her shoe as if the mountain lion was a bug.

The mayor was so proud of Liberty, he gave her the keys of New York.

A few months later, a terrible wind blew. Since there was no electricity, the people of New York were freezing. Liberty knew that she had to do something about it.

Liberty walked to the center of the New York and held her torch up high to warm everybody. She held it up for hours until it started to burn. That's when she started crying for help.

She cried and cried and cried. She cried until she was soaked with her salty tears. The torch only warmed her hand so the rest of her body started to freeze.

Before she could freeze completely, Liberty searched for a blanket that could fit her size. When she couldn't find one, she asked all the maidens of New York to sew all the blankets they could find together.

When the maidens of New York were finished, Liberty draped it over herself. Then she stood in the center of New York and held her torch up high.

That's when her hand started to burn again. Liberty started to cry. Her salty tears soaked her new shawl. She started to freeze once again. This time there was nothing she could do about it. Liberty just stood there, warming her city.

She couldn't stop crying. Her tears made New York Harbor.

We now call her the Statue of Liberty. They made her a national site in honor of her heroism. People come from around the world to admire her.
