A few words

  • ''He laughed. 'Good night, book thief.' ''- Death to Liesel Meminger (Zusak, Chapter 5)"
  • ''I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right.''- Liesel meminger (Zusak, Chapter 10)

Liesel's desires

a young girl hungry for knowledge.

Liesel Desires...

  • Knowledge, which is also her motive for becoming the book thief.
  • The power of words, as she understands their power and wishes to make that power her own.
  • A place to feel safe during the turmoil of the war that threatens her each day of her life, which is what the books eventually become for the young girl.

Liesel's Weaknesses

Every character has it's flaws, however what are Liesels?

Liesel's "Achille's heel":

  • In the beginning of the novel, Liesel does not know how to read, she knows the power of words, however is unable to use them to their full potential.
  • Liesel allows her emotions to get the best of her, in example when she aggressively tells Ilsa Hermann to stop grieving over her son's deat.

Liesel's Strenghts

Her wit and words are her main weapon, but what else is there?

Liesel hits the metaphorical gym

  • Her weakness that she soon turns into a strength is her ability to read. Liesel uses the power of words and adds it to her own strength, and also to better herself after realizing that her inability to read was hindering her.
