Romulus & Remus

  • A woman had child but the uncle threw them into the river. A shepherd found them being nursed by a wolf and raised them. Romulus killed his brother during a fight and became the first king of the newly founded city of Rome.

Rome Religion

Religion

  • Religion was copied from mostly Greeks but also Egyptians.
  • They worshiped gods in the temples. Priests oversaw sacrifices and divination officials looked for good omens in the organs sacrificial animals.

Rome Government

  • Anything dealing with politics was discussed in the forum
  • The Forum included the Senate chamber, the people’s assembly, and a speaker’s platform.
  • The republic consisted of the consuls, the Senate, and the assemblies.

Julius Ceasar

  • He came from a noble family.
  • His active achievements in the military made him popular.
  • He was in love with Cleopatra and helped her with her struggles while starting a family with her.
  • He was a dictator.
  • He was killed by 60 senators and his friend Brutus

  • Concrete greatly impacted engineering.
  • Aqueducts brought water to into the city.
  • Arches where mostly used for the aqueducts.
  • Other buildings include temples such as the Pantheon and roads.

Society

Society

  • In the family, the father was the highest authority.
  • The father and the wife took turns worshiping the gods.
  • There were arranged marriages in Rome.
  • Romans owned more slaves than any one.
  • They were polytheistic.
  • They valued their ancestors.
