Power of the Clergy:
The first estate was a powerful class. They were able to demand a tithe from the Peasants.
(Note: A tithe was 10% of one's income!)

Nobles:
Who were they?
the Nobles were people hired by the king.
There were two kinds of them.

Two Types of Nobles:
1. Nobles:
They were Nobles who were from old families, they would continue to have noble status for the rest of their lives unless the king or queen dismisses them.

2. Noble of the Robe:
They were rich people who bought their way in; they paid the king a lot of money in return for a noble status.

Power of the Nobles:
The Nobles owned about 30% of the land, which was a large amount for such a small part of the population. Furthermore they did not have to pay taxes, which provided no resistance to their income. They mostly live near the king or in the kings palace and hang out with the king everyday. Finally during a Estate General meeting, they could outvote the third estate two to one. They participate in many different kinds of expensive activities, such as hunting, dressing and many more.

The Third Estate:
The third Estate consists of 97% of the population, which were everyone else besides the Nobles and Clergy. There were many different types of occupations in the third estate:

People of the Third Estate: The Third estate consist of many different occupation, such as bankers, merchants, business owners (bourgeoisie) peasants, farmers. There were two kinds of lives they could lead.

The Rural society:
the majority of the farmers owned their land to nobles, which meant a large chunk of their farm product goes to their seigneur (the landowner of a feudal estate)
The peasants lead hard lives, their farm work was not very productive, they had to spend part of their time working on government projects or they have to pay more money to them. Furthermore, they worked as hard as they could, but with little to gain; adding to all this weight, they were forbidden to kill wild animals that kills lives stocks, because they were animals the nobles hunt for their entertainment!
(life stinks!)
STILL MORE?
During these hunts, the nobles occasionally ride through planted fields, damaging crops which leaves the peasants to clean up the mess!

Life in the City I:
Life in the city was not easy either, in order to get a good job, people needed to be part of a guild. (Guilds controlled the work in French towns and cities; becoming part of a guild was very difficult)
Hundreds of thousands of workers wasn't part of a guild; which meant they had low paying jobs or even no jobs at all! This disorganized society lead to increasing rate of beggars, vagrants, and robbers.

Life in the city II:
Other than the poorer people in the third estate, there were the shopkeepers, craftsmen, and clerks, they were slightly better than the poor, they had enough money to buy food but they had to spend most of their income.

The Bourgeoisie:
the bourgeoisie were merchants of the third estates, they were very important in the cities, they imported goods, invested in new businesses and provided goods and services. They were a important part of the French economy. But, laws made some investment impossible while the guilds made other goods' competition impossible. Some Bourgeoisie bought their way into the nobility. However, they were still not able to get to the inner circle to participate in the major meeting in France; they still did not have a strong voice in France.

Inflation:
In the city, people have to what to buy and when to buy it. The word "Inflation" is when the price of a product rises quickly; so people had to know when to buy it, avoid spending too much money.

Monarch:
In France, the Monarch stand above the rest, they consider themselves as the center of the country; they stand above the rest. As the king of France, it was almost unavoidable to spend large amount of money.

Palace of Versailles:
In 1682, King Louis XIV moved his government from Paris to Versailles. this construction started on 1682.
(fun fact: the palace of Versailles took 116,438,892 livres to build)

King Louis XIV:Louis XIV Ruled France for 72 years and over a hundred days till his death. (1643-1715) he was known as the sun king along with his famous quotes: " I am the states, the states is me!" or "I am the source of light of this nation!" Louis was a powerful king, he made France one of the richest countries by the 18th century; but also had many economic and political problems which back lashed at his successor Louis XV. Furthermore Louis XIV loved all forms of art; supported musicians, painters, architectures...

Philosophers:
They were people who meet together to discuss their current society, history, and politics. The formed new ways to think the world. It was called the age of enlightenment. They impacted the French Society by influencing their current government in thinking new ideas, and tried to eliminate absolute monarchy, and promote democracy. They used many different ways to spread their ideas, writing books, plays, songs, poems; women held salons, where they could meet whenever they wish to discuss about their ideas.

The Three Philosophers:
Rousseau:
Rousseau was born in Switzerland, his father made watches. Rousseau believed reason could change someone for the better.
Voltaire:
Voltaire was born in Paris, his father was a lawyer and his mother came from a noble family. He hated injustice, he defended people who he thinks were victims.
Montesquieu:
Montesquieu was born into a rich noble family, he thinks that having ideal governments would allow ruler and officials to hold separate powers. In this case, that no single person would have too much power.

Conclusion:
Overall, I think France had many Political and Economy problems. In my opinion, I think that it was all due to the lack of leadership. Furthermore, all kings loved absolute monarchy, which would lead to many problems. Such as not listening to other Nobles opinions, right or wrong. In many other countries, the king had to listen to their Nobles for advice because the king could not do something if everyone does not agree. I think the peasants and the Third Estate should have a bigger voice in the country, because they are the people who are getting the worst, they experienced all the labor and the king should respect their opinions because the king did not experience their hard work.
