- Civilization began here
- Was taken over by the Ottomans out of Turkey and was ruled by them for 400 years
- Eventually the British took over control
- Became independent in 1932
History
- Suddam Hussein took over power in the 1970's
- Was a very cruel dictator
- U.S. went in in 2003, captured, tried, and executed him
- They now have democratic elections
Climate
Long, dry, hot summers.
Short, cool winters.
