  • Tigers are the largest members of the cat family
  • Their diets consit of ambar,wild pigs and deer
  • In the 1900's the tiger populatins was around 100,000
  • Today they are estimated around 3,000-4,500

Bengal tiger: Less than 2,000
Indochinese tiger: 750-1,300
Siberian tiger: Around 450
Sumatran tiger: 400-500
Malayan tiger: 600-800
South Chinese tiger: Extinct in the wild
Caspian tiger: Extinct
Javan tiger: Extinct
Bali tiger: Extinct…


The Bengal tiger is the most numerous tiger subspecies.

The Bengal tiger is native to India

Since 2010, it has been classified as endangered by the IUCN

  • Pi’s companion throughout his ordeal at sea is Richard Parker 
  • 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger.
  • Originally, a hunter named Richard Parker baptized the tiger with the name "Thirsty"
  • But in a paperwork mix-up, the tiger ends up with the name Richard Parker.
  • And the hunter with the name Thirsty

  • Pi trains Richard Parker
  • He does so buy association the sound of a whistle 
  • With sea Sickness 
  • Once Pi has trained him it become much easier for them to interact 
  • Bengal tiger are like many other tigers and do not like to be dominated

  •  he's simply a very developed figment of Pi's imagination.
