Life Science

What is Life Science

  • An area of science that deals with living things and the living process. Living -Any organism or a living form that poses or has characteristics of life -Movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion, nutrition NonLiving -shows no characteristic of life, such as an object

What is Classification

  • Grouping of things according to characterics
  • Biologist who study this are known as taxonomist
  • The science of classifying organism is known as taxonomy

Who started the early classification of systems

  • Aristotle (famous philosopher) he started to group by the way they moved
  • John Ray was the first to use the term “species"

What is a Domain

  • They are the broadest in the classification process in living things
  • Three Domains Archaea Bacteria Eukarya

How does this work

  • There are six kingdoms
  • Everything we know of fits in one of these kingdoms
  • Each kingdom gets more specific making fewer fit in each

How this works

  • They base these organisms into groups by three basic things 1. Cell type (prokaryotic or eukaryotic) 2. Cell Number (Unicellular or multicellular) 3. Feeding Type (Autotroph or Heterotroph)

Levels of Classification

  • Kingdom
  • Phylum
  • class
  • order
  • Family
  • Genus
  • Species

Concusion

  • If a living thing does not fit into the large area of kingdom it is split into the smaller groups.
  • Split into Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species do this until they meet the characteristics of one of these groups
