LIGHT FINAL

Made by:McKayla Mohn

WHAT IS LIGHT?

  • Is visible energy that some objects give off in the form of radiation
  • Light can also be in two forms. As particles of as waves.

HOW DOES SUNLIGHT TRAVEL TO EARTH?

  • Sunlight travels to earth in the form of electromagnetic radiation.
  • Electromagnetic radiation that move as waves through a vacuum.
  • The speed of light is 299,792,452 meters or 186,000 mi/sec.
  • A vacuum is a space that contains no matter.

HOW CAN LIGHT BE CHANGED?

  • By reflecting, scattering, diffracting or reffracting.
  • Refracting is the change of direction of a wave when it enters a medium with a different wave speed.
  • Diffracting is the ability of a wave to spread out or change direction as it passes through an opening or around an obstruction.
  • Scattering is when the light bounces off something and it bounces in many different directions.
  • Reflecting is when light hits an object and reflects off.

HOW DO HUMANS RECEIVE AND INTERRUPT LIGHT ENERGY?

  • The eye picks up light that is reflected off the object you are looking at and that reflection bounces into your eye.
  • In the eye, light energy and color information are transformed into nerve impulses .
  • This energy is sent to your brain for interpretation.
  • The front of your eye is the part that you are most familiar with since this is the part you can see.
  • In the cent er is the pupil which is an opening that allows light to come in.

HUMAN EYE CONTIUED...

  • The iris is the membrane that surrounds the pupil.
  • The iris determines the color of you eyes.
  • It also controls the size of your pupil and how much light is allowed to come into your eye.
  • Just behind the pupil and iris is the lens which controls the focus in the back you eye.
  • In the back of the eye is the retina, which is made up of cells. That receive the light energy and react to its intensity by sending and impulse to the brain. Then the signals are sent to the optic nerve.
