A war whose objective is of smaller scope than total defeat of the enemy

SPANISH CIVIL WAR

  • The Spanish Civil war was a limited war because the objective
  • was not the total destruction of Spain but the reform of Spain

THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR

  • Fought July 17, 1936-April 1, 1939
  • Between Republicans (loyal to Spanish republic)
  • And the Nationalists ( rebel group led by Fransico)

CAUSES

  • Conditions in Spain were deteriorating. The Great Depression
  • affected everyone Globally and there was corruption in Spain's government
  • The economic disparity between classes was enormous with many people subsistence farming.
  • The combination of the farmers being oppressed and social instability led
  • The opposition of the upperclass and the church.

  • President Manuel Azaña was declared president over Spain's new Left Republic
  • Attempts were made to sperTe the church and state.
  • The problems that led to the creation of the republic stayed
  • And as a result civil unrest was still rampant.

THE GULF WAR

  • It can be argued that the Gulf war was total for Iraq but it was certainly
  • Not for the UN coalition forces. Iraqi suffered anywhere from 20,000-
  • 200,000 casualties while UN casualties barley reach 200.

  • Fought Aug 2, 1990-Feb 28, 1997
  • Between UN coalition forces led by the US
  • And Iraqi forces
  • The coalition forces were able to defeat the Iraq
  • and pull their forces out of Kuwait. Saddam Hussein remained in

CAUSES

  • Tension between Iraq and Kuwait began to build due to
  • Kuwait's refusal to pay for Iraq's wartime debt and Iraq's desire
  • to control Kuwait's oil wealth. Kuwait put too much oil on the market.
  • The caused oil prices to go downtime decreasing Iraq's much needed
  • Income. As a result of these issues Iraq invaded Kuwait .

THE GULF WAR

  • power and Arab states remained divided
  • Saddam brutally crushed rebellions against him and continued his
  • Reign until 2003 when the Allies invaded Iraq.

FALKLANDS WAR

  • -was a limited war due to the fact that
  • neither country used all of their resources
  • to complete their objective

FALKLANDS WAR

  • Fought between Britain and Argentina of the long standing dispute
  • over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.
  • Leaders at this time were Margaret Thatcher of Britain and President Leopoldo
  • Galtieri of Argentina. Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falklands
  • Islands. In response, the British Government dispatched a naval task force.

THE FALKLANDS WAR

  • Argentina surrendered June 14th, 1982
  • Galtieri was removed from power almost immediately after the war.
  • There were uprisings and as a result the bans on political parties were
  • lifted and democracy was placed. Relations between Britain and Argentina
  • were restored in 1985 when they agreed to support each other in oil

CHINESE CIVIL WAR

  • Fought April12, 1927- Dec 22, 1936
  • Between forces loyal to the government of the Republic of China
  • Ie the Goumindang and the Chinese Communist Party

  • Jiang Jieshi had overthrown the warlords with
  • The aid of the Chinese Communist Party in order
  • To unify China. After the warlords were defeated, the parties
  • Fell into dissonance and the GMD saw that the only way to
  • Uphold their principles was to defeat the CCP.

  • The GMD had cornered and nearly crushed the CCP
  • And had forced them into what is known as "The Long March"
  • Which had killed ninety percent of those who fled. The survivors reached Shaanxi.
  • The Japanese capture Manchuria and the two parties work together again. They later fight over Manchuria.
  • They fight for Manchuria during negotiations, CCP wins, Jieshi abdicates, and Mao creates Republic of China.
