LIQUIDS PROPERTIES

BY: ISABELLA MANCINI

BROMINE

  • Appreciable vapor pressure at room temp.
  • Bromine vapor is amber colored
  • Has a pungent odor
  • Irritating to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system

BROMINE CONT.

  • Melting point: 265.9 K
  • Boiling point: 331.9 K
  • In sunlight, bromine water decomposed with the release of oxygen
  • Bromine combines violently with the alkali metals

MERCURY

  • Doesn't react with most acids such as dilute sulfuric acid
  • Reacts with atmospheric hydrogen sulfide
  • Liquid in room temperature
  • Breaks up easily into many small droplets

MERCURY CONT.

  • Atomic mass average: 200.59
  • Inorganic mercury mainly in a form of salts, mostly weak soluble in water
  • Density: 13.546 g/cm^3
  • High surface tension

ETHANOL

  • Completely miscible with water
  • Melting point: 1150 C
  • Boiling point: 780 C
  • Pure ethanol is a polar solvent that's water- soluble

ETHANOL CONT.

  • It's specific gravity is .79, which means it's lighter than water
  • Mixes easily with water
  • Pleasant smell and colorless liquid
  • Flammable

VINEGAR

  • Dilute aqueous solution
  • Comprised of acetic acid and water
  • Sour taste
  • pH value: 2.4

VINEGAR CONT.

  • Chemical formula: CH3COOH
  • Boiling point: 100.6 C
  • Vinegar is the product of alcoholic fermentation & acid fermentation
  • Freezing point: -2 C
