- Example: In The Most Dangerous Game the conflict between Rainsford and Zaroff

- Internal struggle concerning emotion and decision.
- Example: In The Hunger Games, Katniss struggles with whether to trust Peeta or not

- External struggle between man and an element of nature.
- Example: In Robinson Crusoe when he is stranded on an island and has to fend for himself.

- Example: In Hercules where he has a lot of courage, but is considered an outcast until he proves himself a hero.
