PRESENTATION OUTLINE

live feedback

for engagement

Sometimes when we teach, it isn't practical to get input from the whole audience

A large audience

often excludes individual input

In a small audience

like ours, it can be intimidating to add your voice

If you're online

you can feel very distant from the action

if you're timeshifting a webinar or a lecture recording

It's harder still to contribute

we might seek a few responses

but usually react to those ideas we've prepared for

seeking live feedback

can enable culturally diverse input

Pros

  • enliven/direct debate
  • add nuanced layers to the subject
  • a forum for sharing experience
  • a form of backchanneling
  • a snapshot of audience interest
  • feedback on learning in action
  • produce legacy items for learning
  • offer a path for input in discussions for CALD students, timeshifted students

Cons

  • can leave you open to direct criticism
  • can be a distraction
  • hard to moderate on the run
  • poor wi-fi = poor experience
  • anonymity in very small groups is difficult
  • great care needs to be taken when creating questions for student response

Today we're going to use the free Zeetings platform to experience what it's like using live feedback to engage with learning.

Other platforms include

PollEverywhere, Google Forms, Kahoot & Socrative

To create today's live feedback, I signed up for a free teacher account at zeetings.com and followed the tutorial tips

What does live feedback look like?

It can be a simple poll, a survey, a star rating, or text input
