When measuring large amounts of dry ingredients you want to use measuring cups. For example to measure flour or sugar you would get an overflowing scoop then level it out with a knife.

When measuring small amounts of dry ingredients you use measuring spoons. For example measuring baking powder, get a mounded scoop then scrape off the top using a knife.

When measuring small amounts of wet ingredients for example vanilla extract you also want to use measuring spoons. To measure make sure your measuring spoon is over your mixture in case you spill. Then pour the vanilla into your measuring spoon. Finally dump into mixture.

Use measuring jugs/liquid measuring cups when measuring large amounts of liquid ingredients. For example if you were measuring milk or water you would want to get down to eye level with the measuring jug then pour it in to the correct measurement.

Brown sugar is special because you need to do an extra step in order to measure it properly. Which is packing it down. When you are putting it in your measuring cup make sure you pack it down to get out any air bubbles. Then scrape off the access brown sugar with a knife.

When you measure a stick of butter it is fairly easy. On the outside paper covering the butter will show measurements by tablespoons. Count how many tablespoons your recipe calls for then cut on the line and take off the paper. Sometimes the recipe will say 1 stick then you may use the whole thing.

Measuring ingredients is very important because if you do it wrong it may ruin your whole recipe. It may not taste as good as it would other wise. Also you may make it unhealthy.
