Local food is healthier for us. For example, "Local food is often harvested at peak ripeness and sold just a day or two later." Also, "Shopping at farmer's markets would limit the volume of junk food in American's diet."

Local food is better for the environment. For example, "Locally grown food does not need to travel nearly as far from the farm to the market, so significantly less greenhouse gases are emitted in its transportation." The article also says, "Locally grown food does not require excessive refrigeration or packaging, reducing both carbon dioxide output and trash in landfills across the nation."

Some may say industrial food is cheaper and feeds more people. That is true, but locally grown food is better for the environment, and healthier for people. For instance, "By choosing locally grown food, we can invest in and improve the environment, the local economy and our personal health."

Local sustainable is the food chain that would best benefit our country and feed us the best. We should care about it because the people that take the time to grow food locally put in a lot of time and effort. With all of the technology being made to grow and transport the food, a lot of fossil fuel is being used. When you buy food, you should be aware what was done to make the food.
