REPRODUCTION RATE

  • 4-8 eggs, 2-3 broods per year
  • Nest made of twigs and grass
  • Live about 6 years in wild

MIGRATION

HABITAT

  • Open woodlands, farmland, pastures
  • Access to power lines, fence lines to spot prey
  • Thorny vegetation

Habits:
scanning the ground from elevated perches, then diving onto prey; impales them on sharp objects

preying on insects, birds, lizards, and small mammals.
