LOGICAL FALLACIES

AD HOMINEN

  • A claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author.
  • Ex: Some one hates a book, before they read it, because they hate the author.

ARGUMENT FROM IGNORANCE

  • It asserts a proposition is true because it has not been proven false
  • Ex: since the class has no questions concerning the topics discussed
  • the class is ready for the test

DOGMATISM

  • Asserting that your option is the only of rational point of view

EMOTIONAL APPEALS

  • Emotion is substituted for reason and attempt is made to indicate logically
  • why what your arguing for should be accepted
  • Ex: We shouldn't go to school today; I'm happy staying home.
