Immigrants Choose To Leave Their Homes, refugees however must leave their homes to survive

Some Hmong wanted to leave Thailand but not to return to Laos.

Families who were not allowed to go to the United States or other countries were sent to several resettlement villages in Laos.
Most refugees wanted to leave Thailand but no to Laos .

An Unknown Land
By 1990, more than 100,000 Hmong had entered the united states.

Culture Shock
When Hmong refugees arrived in the United States they could speak, write, and read very little or no English.

The Young Hmong Adapt
By the 1980s, many Americans had learned about the Hmong arriving in the United States. groups of Americans reached out to Hmong groups.

The Older Hmong Struggle
Many of the young Hmong who came to the United States had been born in the jungle or at a refugee
