Long Walk To Water

Exposition

• Salva is the main character in the book Long Walk To Water.
• He had 3 brothers and 2 sisters that live on a farm in the village of Loun-Ariic.
• The book starts in school, he attends this school during the wet season!
• One day their village gets attacked by rebels
• The teacher at the school tells all of the children to run into the bush!

Event 1

• Salva keeps running until he can't anymore!
• All throuhout the story, he keeps wondering about were is his family, are they all right, and when will he see them again?

Event 2

• Everyone was trying to get away, even people from different cities.
• He found some people from his village, but not anyone he knew well.
• Later in the afternoon armed rebels came and wanted men or teenagers to help them in the war.
• Salva tryed to man up, he tried to go with the teenagers, the man was very nice and simply told him not to be in a hurry to grow up!

Event 3

• The group that he was in slept in a barn for the night.
• In the morning he wakes up to find that he is alone!
• The other people in his group must have left without him!

Conflict

• Salva has to figure out how to live without much water, food, company, protection!
• He struggles to find anything about his family, he doesn't know anyone and wasn't prepared for the long journey!

Climax

• The importance of him being alone is that it makes him braver and more equipped for what ever happen next...
• Salva meets his uncle Sam, after loosing a new friend, he losses his uncle also!
• People from the Nuer tribe took what little the travelers could have and took Sam's life too!

Event 1

• Salva and the group have to get to a refuge camp, without the leader of the group, Sam.
• Once they get there, they have nothing to do other than to wait.
• After a while on the same camp, Salva decides to find another one to explore.
• At the next camp he makes a friend with a person that teaches him english.
• A request for young people without parents to come to America! Salva thinks that going to America might be better than being here!
• He becomes very desperate to go and live in the United States! Every time a list of names is posted, he runs up to see if he is on the list.
• Finally he finds himself on the list!

Event 2

• After many hours in a plane he arrives to find his family!
• He decides that he will make a difference in the lives of people, including the Nuer.
• Salva talks in schools, churches, and other important buildings!
• After long working hours, he finally is able to help...

Resolution

• Salva ends up making a school with a water pump for the people who live around Nya!
• The other character in the story, Nya, meets Salva after he helped the people.
• At the very end, both characters meet and introduce each other, that is how you know that it is Salva who made the school with a water pump!
