- Get on eye level
- Touch gently and lovingly
- Be curious and LISTEN
- Follow the child's lead
- Keep it a heart connection
To Redirect Mistaken Goal of Attention:
- Make No Eye Contact
- Say Nothing
- Nonverbally Make the Child Feel Loved
- Act Immediately!
Keys to success
- Give every child at least one GEM a day
- Keep a positive balance in emotional bank accounts
- Invest GEMS on the front end
- Make agreements ahead of time
- Be sensitive to a child's needs and abilities
