Was the monarch of the House of Bourbon(King of France)
Led an absolute monarchy during France's classical age
Lasted for 72 years, longer than that of any other known European Soverign
Worked hard to oversee his programs and made sure everything was centered around him

Nicknamed "The Sun God'
Did not like to drink
Inherited the crown @ four years old
Saw himself as a representative of God
Known for his aggressive foreign policy
Catholic
At 22 years old, Louis married his first cousin, Marie Therese

Palace life
Lived in the Palace of Versailles
The King's day was timed down to the last minute
Had certain people to wake him, bathe him, feed him, clothe him, etc.
Louis ate alone in his bedchamber and faced the windows as he ate
Had his own apartment inside of his palace and a hall of mirrors

A civil war called Fronde erupted in 1648 between France and Spain
The Franco-Spanish treaty ended this war
This also made France a leading European Power
France was involved in many wars while Louis was in power
Louis was so concerned about titles and obtaining land that he pretty much put France into debt
France grew tremendously though

Absolute monarch/accomplishments
Held power during three major wars: the Franco-Dutch war, the War of the League of Augsburg, and the War of the Spanish succession
Under his reign, many important discoveries in the new world were made
Making the palace of Versailles
Transforming the monarchy completely

Death
A few days before what would have been his 77th birthday, Louis XIV died of gangrene in Versailles, France
His 5-year-old great-grandson, Louis XV, who was the last male heir of the Duc de Bourgogne, inherited the throne
Louis XIV left an indelible mark on the culture, history and destiny of France
