  • The soils are heavy clays to silty clays,with lots of nutrients
  • Examples of major plant species are the Wild Azalea and Louisiana Iris
  • Threats to the ecosystem include acid rain,deforestation,forest dieback,and invasive species.
  • Their water is mostly freshwater.

One animal that lives in Louisiana hardwood bottomland forests is the red-headed woodpecker.It can peck at trees to find insects,but it can also catch insects in the air.They eat insects,suet,sunflower seeds,spiders,nuts,and earthworms.Their predators include raccoons,flying squirrels,Cooper's hawks,and red foxes.
