• Anything that takes up space
• All matter is made of atoms

ATOM

• The smallest unit of a chemical element

ELEMENT

• Each element is made of only one kind of atom
• There are about 120 elements
• Examples: hydrogen (H2), oxygen (O2), carbon (C), nitrogen (N2), iron (Fe), aluminum (Ai), gold (Au), calcium (Ca)

PERIODIC TABLE

• A list of all of the chemical elements that exist in the universe (that have been discovered by human so far)
• Categorizes, organizes elements according to the properties of their atoms

MOLECULE

• Formed when two o more atoms join together
• These may be two of the same atom or two different atoms
• Examples: water (H2O), salt (NaCi), oxygen (O2), sugar (C6H12O6), carbon dioxide (CO2)
