LSD

  • LSD is a hallucinogenic
  • It was discovered in 1938 and is made from lysergic acid
  • It was very popular among hippies in the late 1960s and college students
  • Many musicians of the era used them, and even wrote songs about the trips
  • Other names for the drug include "acid" amongst others

CONSUMPTION OF LSD

  • It is sold in tablets and pills
  • Ingested orally or through the skin

EFFECTS OF LSD

  • LSD causes mind altering experiences known as "trips"
  • They typically last about 12 hours
  • Mood swings occur and erratic behavior is common
  • Senses "cross over", such as seeing smells and tasting colors
  • A negative experience with the drug is known as a "bad trip"

ADDICTION

  • While not technically addictive, users often desire feeling the trip
  • Repeated use develops tolerance of the drug
  • Due to the unpredictability of the drug, users continue to put themselves at risk

TREATMENT

  • Treatments for LSD addictions are very uncommon
  • Support groups for all addicts exist however
  • Many users quit after a "bad trip"
  • In the US, almost 25 million people reported to used LSD
