FACTS

  • His full name was Ludwig Van Beethoven.
  • He was a brilliant pianist and composer of classical music.
  • He is considered the greatest composer of all time by many people.

CHILDHOOD

  • Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770 in Bonn, Germany.
  • He was the oldest of three brothers.
  • He started playing the piano at the age of five.
  • His father started giving him piano lessons.

BACKROUND

  • His family was poor.
  • Beethoven withdrew from school at the age of 10 to study music.
  • His father was very strict about playing notes. If Beethoven played the wrong note, his father would punish him by boxing his ears.
  • His father wanted him to play the piano at a young age so he could make lots of money for his family.
  • Because his father was boxing his ears for playing the wrong notes, he started to become deaf around age 30.

AWARDS/ACHIEVMENTS

  • He could play the piano blindfolded.
  • Even though he was a deaf musician, he still completed his musical theories.
  • In addition to the piano, Beethoven could play other instruments like the violin and the organ.
