How did reformation start?

• The Bible was written in Latin only 
• The clergy didn't know there basic teachings
• The Pope was more interested in politics instead of God
• The clergy was lazy

Origins of the Lutheranism church

• Lutheranism began in Germany 
• It was after Martin was excommunicated by the catholic church in 1502 
• Luther tried to work out his differences with the church 
• Then Martin separated from the church and started Lutheranism 

Sin/salvation

• Catholics believe people get salvation by following the 
• teachings/practice from the church
• Also believed that people could do anything thing to earn salvation
• They said salvation was God's gift which people would get faith

Authority

• Lutheranism rejected the church council like the Pope 
• Believed that the Bible was the only true religious guidance
• Reading the Bible was the only way to have a good life and and have 
• faith in God 
• Published the Bible in many languages so people can read it

Rituals and Worship

• Lutheranism combined with Catholic practices 
• Services had Holy Communication
• Services had meals like the last supper
• Used candles, crucifix that represented Jesus's crucification
• Prayers were not only in German

community life

• Luther gave followers certain rules about how to live
• Luther said fathers should teach their kids the religion by 
• having them pray before meals and bed
• Women should have as many kids and be married
• Luther believed that these rules would strength Lutheranism
